Why Serve?
1 Corinthians 12 has a familiar but powerful picture: a body made up of many different parts, yet functioning as one. Every single role matters, and God has placed each of us where He wants us to be.
At Open Door, we want serving on a team to be so much more than just filling a slot on a rota. Our vision is for Christ Centred, joy filled, mini-communities where we live out our faith together and give lots of grace when mistakes are invariably made.
Serving is one of the simplest ways to grow in faith, build real friendships, and help our church family thrive.

Outreach & Evangelism
THURSDAYS AND SATURDAYS
Getting out onto the streets of Kettering to share God’s love with our community, both in conversation and practical kindness.
Teas & Coffees
SUNDAYS, AFTER THE SERVICE
Serving refreshments after the service and helping with the washing up — a vital role that helps people linger and connect.
Audio & PA
SUNDAYS & OCCASIONAL EVENTS
Running the sound desk and PA system during Sunday services, mixing microphones and music to make sure everyone can hear clearly.
Stewarding
SUNDAYS
Showing people to their seats, helping with access around the building, keeping everyone physically safe, and counting attendance.
Prayer Ministry
SUNDAYS
Praying with people who come forward after the Sunday sermon, offering a listening ear and asking God to meet them where they’re at.
Sunday Morning Set Up
SUNDAYS, EARLY MORNING
Arriving early to set out chairs and turn everything on – lights, heating, air con – before everyone arrives.
Visuals & Media
SUNDAYS
Displaying song words, presentation slides and playing music and videos during the service.
Welcome
SUNDAYS
Being a friendly face at the door, answering questions, and gathering details from newcomers so we can follow up well.
Worship
SUNDAYS
Proclaiming and enjoying Jesus’ infinite worth and helping people to encounter Him in our gatherings, through music and song.
Children’s Work
SUNDAYS
Helping or leading Sunday school sessions, creating a fun and safe space for kids to learn about Jesus.
Youth
SUNDAYS
Helping or leading youth sessions, investing in the next generation on a Sunday or during the week.
Lift Sharing
SUNDAYS
Giving lifts to and from church for those who can’t drive, helping make sure everyone can get to us.
Practical Helps
AS NEEDED
Be part of a group who are willing to be called on to help out practically – house clearances, mending things, decorating, meals trains etc.
Lifegroup Facilitators
MIDWEEK
Facilitating a group of people to come together, share life and build a thriving and supportive church community.
